When a car is hired, CDW (Collision Damage Waiver), THW (Theft Waiver) and TPL (Third Party Liability) are generally included in the car rental price.
But there is always an Excess (also referred to as Non Waiver or Deductible) on the CDW and THW portions of the rental.
Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
In the event of an accident, the client is responsible for the payment of the damages up to the maximum market value of the rented vehicle at the time of the event. This liability can be reduced to the mandatory Excess in force, when the Coverage for damage due to collision (CDW) is purchased at the beginning of the rental or if it is already included in the rate.
CDW do not cover tyres, punctures, coded keys, damages inside the car, any accident caused by driver under the influence of alcohol or by negligence of the driver (e.g. denting the car while parking, reversing…)
Theft Protection (THW)
The client’s financial responsibility for the total theft or part of the rented vehicle, up to the maximum liability amount, may be reduced to the payment of the mandatory Excess through the purchase of the Theft Protection, at the beginning of renting, or if already included in the rate.
In case of robbery locks or windows, will not be covered by CDW/THW as it is client´s responsibility if he leaves something inside the car that attracts thieves.
Coverage for the reduced liability (SCDW)
The Excess can range from about 750EUR upwards to over 7.000EUR. This means that in the event of theft or damage to the rental vehicle, the renter must pay the Excess to the car rental company. The amount will vary from car group, and will be frozen off your credit card on arrival.
To reduce the excess to 0EUR, the renter must pay the Super Collision Damage Waiver per each day of rental. The amount will vary from Excess value and car group, from 9EUR to 70EUR a day.
Personal Assistance Insurance (PAI)
With 4€ per day, customers can subscribe a personal accident insurance to cover medical and hospital expenses, within the approved limits set out in the Insurance Policy in force. Information on the policy and limit values under request.
You are advised that any waivers you may have chosen will be invalidated if you fail to take reasonable measures for the safety of the Vehicle, its parts or accessories, or fail to comply with all restrictions on the use of the Vehicle or otherwise abuse or misuse it.
